4. FOOD SAFETY TIP

Coloured coded cleaning equipment – what is all the fuss about?

Well would you like me to use the cleaning equipment from the ablutions in the production area? I though not. Using coloured coded cleaning equipment is an effective means of ensuring cleaning equipment is dedicated to an area.

Of course buying the equipment is not the end – make sure you clearly demarcate what is used where and make sure staff members are trained. A colour blindness test is also a good idea.

What colour should be used where? That is really up to you to decide – the supplier can give you ideas in this regard.

Is colour coded cleaning equipment HACCP cleaning equipment? There is no such thing as HACCP cleaning equipment – go and check the standard for yourself. Colour coded cleaning equipment can help you manage the hazard of cross contamination if used correctly.

And don’t forget to have designated SEPARATE areas for cleaning of the cleaning equipment...
